Orange news update: While working in Kenya Orange have been running a dance competition and have launched a social media campaign to ‘start something new’

Orange News Update

Currently Orange is running a dance competition called ‘beat ya street’ for Kenyan dance troops of all ages and all styles of dance. The dance troops will compete in a regional trial against many other dance groups. The troops can choose to compete in a region of their choice, within the region they will face the public’s votes resulting in one winner. The winner of each region will gather in the capital city of Nairobi for a grand final which will be televised live across the country on 28th September 2013. To enter the competition dance groups must register their troop and post a video of them performing. Once registered its down to the members of the public, friends and family to vote for the dance troop they think is best. Voters can vote as many times as they like just as groups can take part in as many regional events as they like. The best eight teams within a region will be shown on TV on a Saturday night to the region they entered into. The winner of this round will then be granted a place in the grand final. The winner of the grand final in Nairobi will receive 5 million Kenyan shillings and the chance to compete internationally in 2014 in a competition against some of the best dance groups in the world. Voters can vote via, phone, internet website or via social media.

Orange has also been using social media for other reasons within Kenya. Their latest advert encouraging customers to ‘start something new’ has been being shown countless times throughout social media sites. On the social media sites Orange have been asking people to share how the internet has changed or made an impact upon their lives. They have called upon Julius Yego who tells the story of how by using Orange internet he taught himself how to throw javelins which eventually lead him to London 2012 Olympic final. The advert has been a massive hit in Kenya as has been nominated the Kenyan Facebook campaign of the year at the Social Media Awards in Kenya, commonly known as SOMA, and has also inspired many thousands of fans to try and fulfil their dreams as well, who are now posting videos of themselves learning new skills and trying to achieve their goals.
