Marks and Spencer News Update: Christmas Advert Launched
Marks and Spencer News Update: Christmas advert launched. M&S threw down the gauntlet to John Lewis with the launch of its new Christmas advertisement.
An all-star cast and fake snow aplenty ensure that the advertisement for Marks and Spencer was just as magical as had been anticipated. The advert that runs for two minutes has thrown down the gauntlet to other multinationals in the run up to the Christmas season. Three big names, Helena Bonham Carter, Rosie Huntington Whitleigh and David Gandy have graced the M&S advert and are sure to represent the ‘one to beat’ in the advertising campaign for Christmas.
The advert itself is aimed not only at the adults in the viewing audience with its selection of stylish warm winter coats and festive fare for Christmas, it also has a strong appeal to children, based as it is on a series of classic fairytales. The tag for the advert is ‘believe in magic and sparkle’.
It starts with the long legged model Rosie giving chase to her runway pooch down a cold wintery street and then having to pursue him as he disappears down a manhole with a clear reference to the start of Alice in Wonderland’s adventures. As she stumbles down her manhole Rosie finds herself a guest at a tea party that is being held and hosted by the Mad Hatter played by David Gandy. Cue Aladdin and Red Riding Hood and the Wizard of Oz with Helena playing the wizard.
Marks and Spencer News Update
The idea for the fantastical scenes of the advertisement were to capture the magic and the essence of Christmas that the customers of the high street giant are used to associating with them. The adverts director Johan Renck believes that they have created a modern epic with the ad that is brining fantasy and fashion together and brining to life much loved fairy tales with a generous helping of glamour and sparkle.
The star of the show, Rosie, was on Twitter in the advert break that saw the ad launched and was urging her Twitter followers to check it out.
With additional excitement there is also the chance for the social media devotees of M&S to name the pup that appears in the advert. John Lewis, one of Marks and Spencer’s main rivals for the crown of best advert will be airing their own Christmas campaign very soon.
