Dyson news update: the UK based engineering conglomerate Dyson Inc are taking their US rival Bissell Inc to court over false advertising on vertical vacuums.

Established in 1993, Dyson have rapidly grown to become one of the biggest and most successful engineering companies in the world, marketing vacuum cleaners, hand driers, bladeless fans and heaters. James Dyson, inventor and owner, built over 5000 prototypes before finally launching his first vacuum cleaner in 1993. The DC01 became the biggest selling vacuum cleaner in the UK in just 18 months, despite including the transparent cylinder that he was advised against based on public survey.

In 2013, Dyson are taking their main US market based competitor to court over false advertising claims. Bissell Inc, based in Michigan U.S. have been advertising their – lower priced – vertical vacuum cleaners with the promise that they remove 99.9% of bacteria and allergens from the air. This is a fact that Dyson have long claimed to be unique to their vacuum cleaners and in order to prove thus, they have taken it upon themselves to have an independent lab test their vacuum cleaners against those of other companies. The results indicating that despite Bissell’s attempts to cover up their mistake with stickers on their machines explaining that allergens such as ragweed and pollen are caught in filters that are fitted as an additional feature to their machines.

Dyson, given that they have gone as far as putting a trademark on the phrase ‘asthma and allergy friendly’ because their machines are so singular in their offer, are continuing with their case against Bissell and will be taking it to court in Illinois. Judge Samuel Der-Yeghiayan will be presiding and has paved the way for the case to proceed and in light of the evidence it is looking unlikely that Bissell can avoid the court case.

As far as Dyson are concerned, their priority is maintaining their image and individuality. Without that they are nothing but since they are perpetually innovative, their future could hardly be described as dismal.
