Capital One News Update: Capital One Named Best Workplace 2013. The credit card company takes the top honours for being the best place to work in Europe.
Capital One, the credit company based in Nottingham, have won the prestigious ‘Europe’s Best Workplace’ title for 2013 as it has been endorsed by its employees as a great place to work. The annual ranking of companies features the most comprehensive study of opinions from the workplace and working culture and then puts together a list of the 100 best places to work in Europe.
Each year, ‘Great Place to Work Trust’ who make the award, take a frank poll of workers to find out what they really think about the place where they work and what their perceptions of their employer really are. The feedback that the Trust received from more than 650 Capital One employees showed that Capital One employees felt that they were valued for their contribution and felt themselves to be considered an important part of the business. Employees’ particularly appreciated the fact that Capital One had a good fun and life balance that made employees look forward to coming to work. They also felt that their employer had a good focus on the community aspect of life and work.
Capital One’s mission statement is ‘Let’s make lives better’ and each year, gives all staff a day off to celebrate. This, employees said, gave an extra feeling of being united and added to the ‘family’ feel of the business. The annual festival – Visionfest is a chance for Capital One employees to show off their creative gifts. Managing Director at Capital One Brian Cole commented that he was delighted that the company had received the level of recognition afforded by the Best Workplace In Europe for 2013 award and said that the hard work that had been put into the concept of ‘making lives better’ for both customers and staff was obviously reaping rewards. He said that the company was constantly trying to make the workplace somewhere that staff wanted to come and that would motivate them. He added that he was proud of the unique culture that Capital One had.

Robert Levering, The Co-Founder and Global CEO of Great Place to Work, said that the companies in the running for the award for 2013 had all worked hard to build camaraderie and trust amongst those who worked for them and that Capital One were a worthy winner of the award.
